Origins of Muesli

Swiss physician Maximilian Bircher- Benner invented muesli in the early 1900’s.

This doctor was ahead of his time, promoting a diet of vegetables, fruit & grains for good health and healing.

He discovered a similar food whilst hiking in the Swiss Alps, adapted it and introduced it to patients at his hospital in Zurich.

Muesli starting becoming more popular as a more “commercial” food in the 1960’s, a time when people were becoming more aware about eating for health and vegetarianism.

Now you can see literally 100’s of versions of muesli on your supermarket shelves!
